Route Info:
5km Kayak - 30km Mountain bike - 9km run
All competitors will be bussed from Carrbridge Village Car Park to Lochindorb Loch side where the race will start with the kayak section.
Kayak
The kayak section will take off from the beach at the north east end of Lochindorb and head out around the Wolf's lair, the island, and back to the beach.
Competitors will then transition to the bike stage.
Bikes will be set up in a rack (approx) 50 yards from the beach. All competitors must run from the beach side to the bike transition area where they will collect their bike (relay teams- bikers must wait by their bikes and not tag their team mates on the beach) and head off on the tarmac public road which runs along the loch side.
Mountain bike
The mountain bike route is for the most part on excellent hill track roads or wide forest tracks, with the exception of one small area at the hill peak between Lochindorb and Achnahannet. There will be a singletrack route picked out through the heather over the hilltop until it picks up a landrover track again, which may be washed out in sections. There is then a section which crosses the main road (Marshalls will be stopping all bikes at this junction as it is a blind corner) and then follows an unclassified tarmac road for approx 3 miles until it returns to the woodland. Thereafter the route follows a good, wide forest track all the way back to the village transition area at the football pitch. Competitors will be on the main road for a short while and must remember they do not have right of way over traffic.
Marshalls will be positioned at all junctions and road crossings.
Run
At the transition area at the football pitch competitors can drop their bikes at the bike racks and head off out of the car park and bear right for the Riverside Path. Marshalls will be there to warn traffic and to direct runners. The run then follows the Riverside path, crossing the River at Ellan Stables, and marshalls will direct runners towards the village forest. The route then follows the established forest paths, heading out alongside the railway line towards Docharn wood again. There runners will have to cross the busy Carrbridge - Aviemore road, and there will be marshalls to at either side of the crossing. Runners will then head back along the same route as the mountain bike section, through the woodland and back towards the village, to the race finish on the football pitch.
